Humans also inhabit areas of the Stelvio National Park. Three valley communities fall within the boundaries of the natural reserve, with a further seven located in the immediate region. A total of around 64,000 human inhabitants are currently resident in the National Park.

Sustainable co-existence between man and the animal and plant kingdoms is only feasible if the human population abides by certain rules and sticks to them. Human activities in the Stelvio National Park are in the areas of: agriculture, animal husbandry and tourism.
