The naturatrafoi Visitor Centre on the Stilfserjoch Pass Road

The Geology of the Ortler-Cevedale Mountains

In the village of Trafoi along the Stilfserjoch/Stelvio Pass, the naturatrafoi Visitor Centre shows how nature has successfully managed to adapt in this high Alpine region. With sometimes extreme weather conditions as well as the unique geology of the Ortler, both animals and plants have had to evolve a number of ingenious survival strategies.

EXHIBITION

Living on the edge

The exhibition thus offers fascinating insights into the geology of the Ortler Cevedale Mountain Group and shows how plants and animals survive under the extreme climatic conditions in high mountain regions.
Only a few specialists from the animal and plant world are able to withstand the harsh living conditions above the tree line. How do they manage to survive in such a rough environment?
Experience life "on the edge” with all your senses in the exhibition cinema, through rocks and furs you can touch, on large-format image panels, and with interactive stations such as quiz games, fairy tale listening stations, and a rock puzzle.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION

The amphibians of South Tyrol

Amphibians are among the oldest known terrestrial vertebrates. ‘Amphibious’ means “twice alive”. And this is exactly what describes their way of life: They live partly in the water and partly on land. This special exhibition is on loan from the Office for Nature of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol. On display from May 2025.

SPECIAL EXHIBITION
